4G LTE!!!!!!! You go to the Phone store and you hear almost everyone saying “I want a phone that supports 4G LTE ”. You are like what is even 4G LTE??? Is it better than 3G in any way? Is it in reality faster than 3G? Can I tweak a 3G phone and get it to use 4G LTE? Maybe you don’t even know anything about it and you are guessing it is something so technical? As funny as it might seem, some people don’t even know something like 4G LTE is in existence. Well, I am nice and I will share my knowledge with you, It is what I love doing.
For starters, the term” 4G LTE” is an acronym for the Fourth Generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology. It is the generation that was introduced after 3G (The Third Generation). This new technology provides faster mobile internet access, 3D television, extreme high-quality online video conferencing, HD (High-definition) mobile television, IP telephony and better gaming services. These conditions must be met by any 4G system in the globe as defined by the International Telecommunication Union. The 4G LTE system was first released in Sweden in the year 2009.
The 3G on the other hand, is the acronym for the third generation of wireless mobile telecommunications technology. It was the predecessor of the new 4G generation. The 3G offered mobile internet access, mobile TV, wireless voice telephony, video calls and a rigid access of the internet. These conditions must be met by any 3G system in the globe as defined by the International Telecommunication Union. The 3G system makes use of services for data transfer at a rate at a minimum of 200 kilo bits per second.3G was gradually modified into 3.5G and 3.75G that provided larger mobile access up to figures of mega bits per second. Also, the mobile TV feature was initiated.
Before I present a detailed comparison between the two, let’s set out our criteria the comparison will be based on. We can classify internet speeds in two:
- Upload Speed: This represents the speed at which mobile data is transferred from a Smartphone to the web. For example, uploading a picture to your Instagram account.
- Download speed: This symbolizes the speed at which mobile data is transferred from the web to a Smartphone. For example, downloading a song.
The third generation network can be very slow at times. Its download speed has a range of 3 mega bytes per second to 7 Mega bytes per second. Its upload speed varies from 0.5 Mega bytes to 1.9 Mega bytes per second.
An improved version of the 3G, 3G HSPA+ offers higher download speed. Its download speed varies from 5 Mega bytes per second to 40 Mega bytes per second. Its upload speed varies from 3 Mega bytes to 21 Mega bytes per second.
The new 4G LTE provides the fastest internet access to mobile devices and modems. . Its download speed varies from 13 Mega bytes per second to 145 Mega bytes per second. Its upload speed varies from 7 Mega bytes to 45 Mega bytes per second.
The improved version of the 4G LTE is 4G LTE-A (4G LTE Advanced). . Its download speed varies from 40 Mega bytes per second to 293 Mega bytes per second. Its upload speed varies from 30 Mega bytes to 150 Mega bytes per second.
From the information provided, these networks and their modifications can be arranged in order of increasing speed. So you have it,
3G < 3G HSPA+ < 4G LTE < 4G LTE-A
